Billboard Music Awards: Drake breaks Taylor Swift record


Canadian R & B star Drake has won 12 awards at the Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday in Las Vegas, breaking the previous record.

With now a total of 27 awards, he overtook the singer Taylor Swift, who has received 23 awards so far. At the gala, the 32-year-old was honored among other things as the best artist and best male artist. He received a prize in the “Top Billboard 200 Album” category for his hit album “Scorpion” and an award for his single sales. In addition, he was honored as the most streamlined artist, best rapper and best radio artist.

Swift went empty despite two nominations. She opened the gala together with Brendon Urie from “Panic! At the Disco” and sang the new single “ME!”.

Top winner of the evening was the US rapper Cardi B. Among other things, she received an award for the song “Girls Like You”, which she had recorded together with Maroon 5. Mariah Carey received the ICON Award from Jennifer Hudson.

Ariana Grande was honored as the best female artist, Ella Mai as the best R & B artist and Dua Lipa as the best new artist. Further show highlights of the evening: Madonna sang the song “Medellin” on stage with Maluma, Paula Abdul performed medleys on her debut album “Forever your Girl”.
